Content management system
The content management systems were earlier used only by the newspapers and magazine websites as they needed to change their content every day. But nowadays there is no such differences every website use this content management system to provide fresh content. There is a need for management systems like word press which is user friendly and allows you to manage the content of your website. The content for the website can be added, edited, removed, with the help of the content management systems just by using a database at the backend.
Some content management systems have advanced content management features such as version management and multi author revision and editing. The content management systems depend on what kind of content you are going to use some people use python some use .net while some are written in PHP. It completely depends on what kind of content you are going to have in your website, is it going to text, images, audio or video.
If you just want to create a blog for your company you can simply use software such as word press or expression engine. The people generally use this software for publishing there blogs but many people use that even for their magazine publishing etc. Otherwise in order produce a large-scale content website you can use something like PHPNuke, Drupal or B2Evolution. Commercial content management systems available in the market range between $100-$10000 for small and mid-range businesses.
Some more things to consider before you choose your content management system:
- Does it take care of your SEO requirements?
- Does it let you create static web pages?
- Does it let you save multiple versions of the same document?
- Is the content management system hosted under your own domain are is it hosted on a third party domain?
- What support is available in case you need it?
- How steep is the learning curve?
The best CMS system I have yet to find is CMS made simple, I would be interested to hear what you use.
